Re-Election Campaign 2020

I am pleased to announce my re-election campaign for State Representative in 2020! In my first year as your Legislator, I listened to your concerns and fought for policies to improve the lives of women, children and families in our town and in our state. I bring an urgency to this role, necessary to create social, political and economic change. I would love your support and vote in 2020! As always, reach out to me with questions & feedback.

About Representative Gilchrest

Jillian Gilchrest challenged a 23 year incumbent to a Democratic Primary in August of 2018. She was frustrated by the status quo in Hartford and a lack of urgency to make significant social and economic change. Voters agreed and helped Jillian to a win in the 2018 Primary and the November General Elections.

In her first term in office, Jillian serves as a member of the Appropriations, Education and Commerce Committees. She was selected and serves as Majority Caucus Chair for the House Democrats and Chair of the Women & Children’s Health subcommittee for the state’s Medical Assistance Program Oversight Council. Many of the policies Jillian championed were signed into law during her first year in office, including paid family & medical leave, licensing for nail technicians, estheticians & eyelash technicians, a ban on plastic bags, safe storage of firearms in homes & cars, elimination & extension of the sexual assault statute of limitations, PTSD workers compensation coverage for police officers, parole officers, and firefighters, and an increase of the smoking age to 21.

Representative Gilchrest was proud to vote for a budget with significant investments in education, job growth, and economic development that also funds the Rainy Day fund at historic levels. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, Jillian identified ways to cut antiquated and unnecessary spending. She will continue to advocate for these cuts and more, and urge her colleagues to do the same.

Representative Gilchrest offers a variety of ways for residents to engage in the legislative process. These include in-district “town hall” discussions, one-on-one meetings at public locations in town or at her Hartford office, “Run With Your Rep” and “Walk & Talk” events in Elizabeth Park, door knocking, e-newsletters, and Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter posts.
