It’s Convention season, time for political parties to endorse the candidates they plan to support in either the August Primary or the November Election. Across the state of Connecticut, Congressional Candidates, Statewide Candidates, and State House Candidates are participating in Conventions. I am running for State Representative for the first time, so this is my first experience with a District Convention.
Unfortunately, the rules aren’t very clear. But, after speaking with numerous people and multiple lawyers, I have been told that in order to receive the Democratic endorsement, I must win the majority of votes from members of the West Hartford Democratic Town Committee (DTC) who represent the 18th District. There are 23 members on the DTC who represent the 18th district, which means I need 12 votes to win.
I have met, and met with, many of the 23 members of the DTC. As a first time candidate challenging a 23-year democratic incumbent, however, I’m not sure on how many votes I can expect to receive. The Convention is being held on Thursday, May 24th at 7PM at the West Hartford Town Hall. If you’re interested in seeing democracy in action, I would love to have the support!
